Motion Facts and Information

  1. Motion sickness generally clears up once you leave the car, boat, or airplane, so you'll rarely find yourself in a health care provider's office during an episode. But your provider may be able to recommend ways to prevent and treat the condition for your next trip.

  2. Some people experience nausea and even vomiting when riding in an airplane, automobile, or amusement park ride, and this is called motion sickness. Many people experience motion sickness when riding on a boat or ship, and this is called seasickness even though it is the same disorder.

  3. Most cases of dizziness and motion sickness are mild and self-treatable disorders.

  4. Relief Bands for motion sickness can help prevent the unpleasant symptoms of travel sickness.

  5. The standard advice for seasickness is to get up on deck where visual input agrees with vestibular input. Likewise, studies have shown that a child is far less likely to experience car sickness when in an elevated child seat that provides a good outside view.

  6. As you may have observed some families suffer from motion sickness more than others, there is also a racial difference which was shown in a medical trial. The Asian-American children suffered the most motion sickness, 100% of them and it was so bad for some of them they asked to leave the trial early.

  7. The success of acupuncture as an anti-nausea treatment led to the development of a device called the ReliefBand, which has just come onto the market to relieve motion sickness, sea sickness and altitude sickness.

  8. Most cases of dizziness and motion sickness are mild and self-treatable disorders.

  9. Some divers as being very effective for sea sickness report eating peppermint in conjunction with ginger. Since mint does have some of the same calmative qualities as ginger, this may be true. Perhaps it is just the belief that it works that is effective. Regardless, it is an inexpensive and pleasant addition. An added benefit is making your breath sweeter.

  10. To prevent motion sickness or sea sickness or altitude sickness: Do not read while traveling if you are subject to motion sickness, and do not sit in a seat facing backward.
