Motion Facts and Information

  1. What Causes Motion Sickness, Seasickness or Altitude Sickness: In order for the body to determine where it is at all times, the brain combines visual information, touch information, inner ear information, and internal expectations. Under most circumstances, the senses and expectations agree. When they disagree, there is conflict, and motion sickness can occur.

  2. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Feeling of Nausea

  3. Approximately 90% of adults will experience motion sickness at some time in their lives. However, it is much more common for children.

  4. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; Avoid spicy or greasy food/citrus juices/sod

  5. Ginger is a natural preventative for motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness. It soothes a queasy stomach and has no side effects. You can get it in pill form, tablets or powder, as ginger root in many herb and health food stores, or as pickled ginger slices at Japanese food marts and even at many Japanese restaurants. Most serve it pickled with sushi, hand rolls, and other of their dishes.

  6. Techniques to reduce motion sickness, seasickness, and altitude sickness: Position yourself for the least movement, The lesser the movement while traveling the better, this means asking the driver to slow down while in either a car or bus, sitting near the middle of an airplane or boat. Try and watch the horizon when you are on a boat and get plenty of fresh air even if it’s very cold. When in a car try and sit in the front seat looking straight ahead, if you are old enough, drive the car.

  7. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Do not skip eating before diving. An empty stomach can be almost as bad as one with the wrong types of food in it. Give your stomach acids something to work on other than your well-being. Give your stomach time to begin digesting you meal. Get up a little earlier if you must to eat relaxed and an hour or more before going out on the water.  Don't overeat and get bloated either.  Easy does it.

  8. Take steps to prevent motion sickness, seasickness, or altitude sickness before your next trip. Avoid reading while traveling, Focus on the view outside, Be the driver; the one in control is less likely to experience motion sickness, Get plenty of fresh air, Avoid eating or drinking heavily, Look for a seat or cabin near the center of the vehicle, where it moves the least.

  10. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Age, Children suffer more from motion sickness than adults and usually adults over 50 rarely suffer from motion sickness
