Motion Facts and Information

  1. To help motion sickness always ride where your eyes will see the same motion that your body and inner ears feel, e.g. sit in the front seat of the car and look at the distant scenery; go up on the deck of the ship and watch the horizon; sit by the window of the airplane and look outside. In an airplane choose a seat over the wings where the motion is the least.

  2. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; Avoid spicy or greasy food/citrus juices/sod

  3. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Once you are in the water, drop down below the surface (make sure your buddy knows that this is the plan). The top ten or fifteen feet or so (3 to 4.5 meters), more in rough seas can still have a surge that will have an effect on you. Dropping below that can have a calming effect on your senses (and your stomach).

  4. Techniques to reduce motion sickness, seasickness, and altitude sickness: Don't read while traveling, Reading increases the conflict between what the eye sees and what the boat feels which is the cause of motion sickness. So if you suffer from motion sickness do not read while traveling.

  5. Motion sickness is the nausea, disorientation and fatigue that can be induced by head motion. The first sign is usually pallor. Yawning, restlessness and a cold sweat forming on the upper lip or forehead often follow. As symptoms build, an upset stomach, fatigue or drowsiness may occur. The final stages are characterized by nausea and vomiting.

  6. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness avoid fatty and greasy food several hours before you travel.

  7. Approximately 90% of adults will experience motion sickness at some time in their lives. However, it is much more common for children.

  8. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness keep each other occupied and do not think about getting sick.

  9. Motion sickness drugs, available over the counter or by prescription, can cause unpleasant and sometimes serious side effects. Many of these drugs may not be suitable for children or, in certain circumstances, even for adults.

  10. Most medications for motion sickness need to be taken at least 30 minutes before exposure to the activity that can cause the problem.
