Motion Facts and Information

  1. For motion sickness or sea sickness: While in the water, be careful not to swallow sea water. It makes many people nauseous. Make sure your mouthpiece fits well and that you have your regulator comfortably and securely in your mouth so as to keep water out.

  2. Techniques to reduce motion sickness, seasickness, and altitude sickness: Position yourself for the least movement, The lesser the movement while traveling the better, this means asking the driver to slow down while in either a car or bus, sitting near the middle of an airplane or boat. Try and watch the horizon when you are on a boat and get plenty of fresh air even if it’s very cold. When in a car try and sit in the front seat looking straight ahead, if you are old enough, drive the car.

  3. Most medications for motion sickness need to be taken at least 30 minutes before exposure to the activity that can cause the problem.

  5. If you do get sick, don't despair. Motion sickness generally clears up soon after you stop traveling, and has no long-term complications. Report any unusual side effects from motion-sickness medications to your health care provider.

  9. Another treatment for sea sickness or motion sickness is an acupressure wrist band. It applies pressure to a particular point on your wrist, which can prevent the feeling of nausea.

  10. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Conflicting Messages, One message or signal comes from the middle (or inner) ear that controls balance and the other message comes from the eyes. During changes in position caused by travel these two signals conflict or disagree. Or seen another way, reading a book the view remains stable while the body is twisted and turned during travel. These two signals end up at the nausea center of the brain and with such confusion is it a surprise that motion sickness is the result.
