Motion Facts and Information

  1. Most cases of dizziness and motion sickness are mild and self-treatable disorders.

  2. The movement of a boat on a fluid sea creates stress in the portions of the brain responsible for balance. Perhaps that stress causes the brain to start malfunctioning as the land based environment it understands is suddenly not behaving, as it should.

  3. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Feeling cold and clammy

  4. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Racial and Genetic Differences

  5. Acupressure bands have started appearing in pilot shops and catalogs. These are elastic bands with protrusions that apply pressure to the wrist, stimulating the median nerve in the fashion of acupuncture.

  6. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; try to stay in fresh air

  7. Motion sickness is a conflict between your senses. A fluid filled canal in your inner ear that controls your sense of balance tells your brain that your body is moving, while your eyes, looking into the cabin of the boat, tells your brain that you are not moving. That conflict can cause your body to be out of balance, and we know how the digestive system feels about that.

  8. Seasickness happens when the body, inner ear, and eyes all send different signals to the brain, resulting in confusion and queasiness. It is a problem generally attributed to disturbance in the balance system of the inner ear (vestibular) system. Your sensory perception gets out of synch as these nerve fibers attempt to compensate for the unfamiliar motion of the ship moving through water.

  9. What Causes Motion Sickness, Seasickness or Altitude Sickness: In order for the body to determine where it is at all times, the brain combines visual information, touch information, inner ear information, and internal expectations. Under most circumstances, the senses and expectations agree. When they disagree, there is conflict, and motion sickness can occur.

  10. Motion sickness produces a whole range of symptoms, of which nausea and vomiting are the most severe.
