Motion Facts and Information

  1. There are essentially three strategies to treatment of motion sickness: Behavioral (avoidance, mental activities), Medication (conventional, alternative), Stimulation (alternative)

  2. Techniques to reduce motion sickness, seasickness, and altitude sickness: The Night before the trip, Lack of sleep, hangovers and upset stomachs are wrong way to start a trip and to avoid motion sickness. Therefore careful eating the 24 hours before the trip is wise and will help to reduce the chance of motion sickness. Therefore avoid a heavy and or fatty meal, one with lots of spices, chicken and fish or anything that is old or a little suspect, like takeaway foods late at night.

  3. Take steps to prevent motion sickness, seasickness, or altitude sickness before your next trip. Avoid reading while traveling, Focus on the view outside, Be the driver; the one in control is less likely to experience motion sickness, Get plenty of fresh air, Avoid eating or drinking heavily, Look for a seat or cabin near the center of the vehicle, where it moves the least.

  4. One theory of motion sickness focuses on sensory conflict. Cruise ship passengers are far more likely to get seasick when below because their vestibular sense detects motion while their eyes reveal motionless surroundings.

  5. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Drink plenty of water. Even partial dehydration lowers your body's resistance to the stressful factors caused by diving and the boat ride. Take lots of water with you and drink often.

  6. Motion sickness causes reduced blood flow and this in turn reduces the body temperature making the sufferer feel cold and clammy.
